Research Interests.
I have an interest in contributing to a deeper understanding of the impact of racial trauma via social media, particularly police brutality. Adolescents are consistently exposed to trauma on social media. One salient source of trauma is the high-profile killings of unarmed Black Americans by police officers as of late. For Black adolescents, exposure to these traumatic events is particularly detrimental to their well-being because they are likely to experience racism vicariously. Vicarious experiences of racism are defined as race-based traumatic stress, characterized by racism-related transactions between individuals or groups and their environment. These transactions emerge from the dynamics of racism and are perceived to tax or exceed existing individual and collective resources or threaten well-being.
